ELAINE KUSMISHKO (UNITED KINGDOM)
Art Director
Art Director
Elaine, like many others of her generation, came to film, not via a conventional route ….. but by a series of career choices – unknowingly collecting skills along the way that would enable a career in film.
With a degree in Textile Design from Winchester School of Art, a Masters in Film Production Design from AFTERS (Australian Film, Television & Radio School)
A certificate in Fine Arts from NYSS (New York Studio School of Drawing, Painting & Sculpture – incomplete) and an in-progress RHS - Horticultural Plant management – Level 2 qualification.
Elaine has studied on 3 continents – and although not all industry courses - these studies relate directly to her current film practises, particularly to the organic sets that have been her focus over the past decade.
Early on, Theatre Design and stage managing gave her a strong understanding of time management and budgeting,, while her work as a touring carpenter for English Touring Opera for 5 seasons, gave her a solid understanding of set construction, and logistics.
Recently taking on roles as Senior and Supervising Art Director’s, has re-enforced the importance of teamwork and communication within the Art Department and the entire crew in general.
Whilst being a landscape painter, drawn to infinity vistas, has given a greater understanding of the requirements for virtual sets and set extensions
