WORLD BUILDING
WORLD BUILDING
WORLD BUILDING
WORLD BUILDING
This session focuses on development and pre-production, exploring how art department professionals shape story worlds through visual storytelling.
Lectures & Case Studies:
Our expert speakers share insights from their work on acclaimed films and series, covering:
Visual communication tools: mood boards, concept sketches, and research reels
Collaborating with directors and screenwriters from concept to production
Set construction vs. location shooting with sustainable materials
Set decoration: color, texture, and fabric choices
Managing multicultural crews and international workflows
Building your professional brand in the international marketplace
Practical Assignment:
In collaboration with our partner institutions, we invite 5 real film/TV projects currently in development. Each participant is assigned one project and creates a complete visual concept independently, guided by our practical assignment mentors. This approach allows you to develop your unique vision while seeing how other participants interpret the same brief. Rather than competing, participants learn from each other's approaches - discovering that great design can take many forms.
Participants will work on:
Mood boards and visual lookbooks
Set breakdowns and concept sketches
Environmental sustainability strategies
VFX and postproduction considerations
Location scouting vs. set build recommendations

DIGITAL POSTPRODUCTION
DIGITAL POSTPRODUCTION
DIGITAL POSTPRODUCTION
DIGITAL POSTPRODUCTION
This session explores how virtual production and VFX are transforming the art department's creative and technical role in postproduction.
Lectures & Case Studies:
Our expert speakers demonstrate how they've integrated digital tools and virtual production into their workflows, covering:
Designing for post: balancing built sets vs. digital environments for cost-efficiency and narrative impact
Collaborating with VFX and postproduction supervisors: establishing common language and workflows across departments
Green/blue screen strategies: aesthetic and technical considerations
Virtual production and real-time design tools (Twinmotion, Unreal Engine)
Remote collaboration and real-time visualization platforms
Digital archiving and paperless set management
Practical Assignment:
Participants will work on a hands-on assignment reimagining selected scenes from a complex, digitally-produced series. Using real-time and digital design tools, they'll develop alternative visual concepts that balance physical builds with digital extensions, and create integrated postproduction pipeline plans.
Assignment details and project to be confirmed.
